Puberty Growth Peak
Understand the stages of the adolescent growth spurt.
Stage 1: Pre-Spurt
Typical Age: 8-11. Growth is steady but slow before the major acceleration.
Stage 2: Spurt Initiation
Initial acceleration. Increased metabolic activity and nutritional needs.
Stage 3: Peak Height Velocity (PHV)
The fastest growth period. Boys can grow 10cm/year, girls 9cm/year.
Stage 4: Deceleration
Growth slowing down as the skeleton matures and growth plates start to close.
Stage 5: Final Adult Stature
Full skeletal maturity. Minimal to no growth after this point.
Critical Support during PHV
Peak Height Velocity (PHV) is the period of the most intense growth during puberty. During this time, your child's body needs extra support:
Calcium & Vitamin D
Essential for rapid bone mineralization and strength.
Increased Sleep
Growth hormone is primarily released during deep sleep.
